the lazy wedding

i’m finally back. after being immersed in 2 hellacious weeks at work, i am now free from prison. here is the wedding update: we’ve decided to be lazy. very lazy. and as it seems, we’re fully assimilated new yorkers. because we have decided the optimum place for the wedding is our neighborhood! and we see no need to travel beyond our usual 4 block radius of life. lucky for us, the oldest coolest church in all of new york city is right across the street from our apartment. so yes, in fact, we will walk one block to say ‘i do’. any more would be just too much effort. the church is called ‘St. Mark’s’ and hardly your typical church. I think there is a president buried there. We will actually be getting married in the courtyard of the church which is a burial site/graveyard. Cool… I like the church.  The steeple sort of reminds me of the little rhyme ‘Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people.’  Fun.  So that’s the update. Jason is forcing me to leave go to ‘brunch’ right now at 5pm so that’s all for now….

Tears of Joy

NYTimes: From M. S. Patients, Outcry for Unproved Treatment

Literally tearing up over this.  Finally we have good coverage on this new treatment for multiple sclerosis. Some of you know that we fought a battle for Jason to have this treatment, and finally found a doctor willing to help us a month ago.  Jason has severely narrowed veins in his neck which has been linked to MS.  The procedure treated several of the narrowings.  The results for Jason have been wonderful and *very real*. With this article now the pressure is on for hospitals everywhere to approve the procedure, and allow patients the choice to have this treatment. So much to say on this. The journey we’ve been on, and how odd to find ourselves in the middle of such a controversy.   It has been very emotional.  We knocked on so many doors, jumped through so many hoops, and pushed so hard until we found an amazing doctor.  I’ll tell the story sometime.  Stay tuned… We will post a video of Jason pre and post procedure showing subtle change.

what jason is listening to now

old school punk rock.  this is what he likes to work to.  i’m feeling guilty because i asked him to turn it down, poor guy. and now he’s resorted to head phones.  he’s blissfully absorbed in his punk music and laptop.  i told jason if we got engaged, i’d get a ‘J’ tattoo somewhere, and he’d then have to get an ‘A’. he says if his friends ask, what’s the ‘A’ stand for? he’ll say…. Anarchy… obviously

idea: bring the little people

this is my niece, hannalei. she was not too thrilled with her first bites of baby food.  she is flying in for the wedding all the way from hawaii. i think her parents might be coming too. :) if you bring your kid, we’ll enlist them to be in our ‘flower children’ gang. here are our ‘flower children’ so far: hannalei, maddox (~ 2 yr old, known for specialized spin dance moves), spencer (~ 3 yr old, a little gentleman), max (spencer’s AWESOME big brother), avery (~ 3 yr old, has a pet chicken named snefs). Violet (my other niece, just a few months old) and nell (also just a few months old…) are probably too little to be part of the flower children gang, but they will also be there !  fun fun.

the white dress

ok, so had to go to jcrew bridal store today. luckily the dress i like is the cheapest one. this was a thrilling stroke of good luck. and to boot, i got to check THE biggest item off my list – the white dress. to be honest, long frilly white dresses bring on my gag reflex. i think the bridal salon people were semi-confused when i came by myself. no guest. no bridesmaids. then they wanted to know the date of the wedding. sept 11th i told them. ha. am i terrible for getting a kick out of telling people my wedding is on 9/11?  as if we especially chose that date.  doesn’t every bride long to hold her wedding on the anniversary of such infamy…

idea: farm to table

i hope that we can do a farm to table sort of menu.  we’re planning jambalaya or a low country seafood boil.  and fresh vegetables and fruits.  one red wine, one white.  all very simple, local and fresh fresh fresh.  yum.
